The NSW Parliament’s Upper House has voted unanimously to commend Hastings Valley Netball Association on its historic win of the State Netball Cup last month.
The Resolution of the Parliament came about after Liberal MP, Scot MacDonald raised the big win in the House on 20 October 2017.
“Hastings Valley Netball Association is a small one compared to the likes of Northern Suburbs, Manly Warringah and Sutherland, some with over 5000 members. Despite this, Hastings Valley powered through the rounds beating the Northern Suburbs Netball Association from Sydney’s Lower North Shore” Mr MacDonald said.
“The result is a testament to the Coach, Michelle Marino and all her players’ hard work”.
“Hastings Valley was founded in 1977 with a mere eight senior teams in its competition. Today, it boasts a membership of over 1300”
“The State Cup held in Sydney had nine of the best teams from both metro and regional areas fighting for the title. The shield to Hastings Valley was cause for a double celebration as they also became the highest-placed regional team in the State that won the event. This is a very historic occasion”.
Mr MacDonald also paid tribute to the Association’s Executive Committee led by President Helen Miles as well as acknowledging those awarded Life Membership and helped over the last 40 years to create such a successful Netball fraternity.
“This success could not have been so but for the work of so many selfless people who have devoted so much time to Netball – it’s great to see such an achievement and I congratulate them” Mr MacDonald concluded.
