The Central Coast Community Women’s Health Centre at Wyong has been commended by the NSW Parliament’s Upper House following a motion by Liberal Upper House MP and Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast, Scot MacDonald MLC.
“Sadly, Wyong has one of the highest rates of domestic violence in our State. However, the outstanding work of Paula Jarman and her colleagues at the Wyong Centre is going a long way to helping” Mr MacDonald said.
“With a new building there is now room for the Centre to increase its services, including group activities on domestic violence prevention and support, anxiety and self-esteem”.
“It disturbs me greatly that new research recently released by Monash University shows that a woman is killed by her ex or current partner almost every week in Australia, this must stop and organisations like the Wyong Womens’ Health Centre and so many others are doing a fine job in helping women to escape abusive relationships” Mr MacDonald said.
“Next month is White Ribbon Day to bring awareness about preventing violence against women. I strongly believe that we as a community need to make sure everyday that people know where they can go to get help to confront this heinous problems confronting our society”.
“The Wyong Womens’ Health Centre can be telephoned on 4351 1152 and the National Domestic and Family Violence Counselling and Support Service can be called 24 hours a day on 1800737732. And in cases of Emergency don’t hesitate to contact Triple 0” Mr MacDonald concluded.
