PETITION FOR EXTENSION OF NEWCASTLE FERRY SERVICE TABLED

Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Scot MacDonald MLC this afternoon tabled in the NSW Legislative Council the petition from members of the Throsby Basin Business Chamber and residents of the Newcastle area advocating for the extension of the current ferry services.

212 signatures were received calling on the NSW Government and the appointed contractor, Newcastle Transport to consider the extension of the current ferry service running between Stockton and Queens Wharf to include additional pick up and drop off facilities at Wickham and Carrington.

“I would like to acknowledge the advocacy of the Throsby Basin Business Chamber, President Clare Monkley and all those who signed the petition” Mr MacDonald said.

Clare Monkley, President of the Throsby Basin Business Chamber was pleased to see the petition brought to the NSW Parliament.

“We are grateful to our Chamber members and business owners for participating in the survey and having their views known,” she said.

“We call on the State Government to listen to those views and carefully consider the extension of the current ferry service running between Stockton and Queens Wharf to include additional pick up and drop off facilities at Wickham and Carrington.”
