Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Scot MacDonald MLC is encouraging Hunter seniors to mark their calendars and take part in celebrations occurring as part of the 2018 NSW Seniors Festival.
A number of local events and special deals will be on offer to Hunter seniors during the festival, which runs from 4th April to 15th April.
“I encourage seniors to join in the 2018 Festival celebrations. There are wonderful social, creative, cultural, and physical activities available to inspire older people to get involved in our great community,” Mr MacDonald said.
Minister for Ageing Tanya Davies said the NSW Government has provided more than $200,000 in funding to support more than one hundred local events across NSW with all activities in line with the 2018 theme Let’s Do More Together.
“I’m thrilled with the activities on offer this year. Councils, businesses and community organisations are hosting free and discounted events which celebrate seniors and remind us it’s never too late in life to try new things,” Mrs Davies said.
The NSW Seniors Festival is the largest event of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. More than 500,000 people are expected to take part in 2018 for the Festival’s special Diamond Jubilee Anniversary.
“This year the Festival turns 60 years young so to celebrate we’re making it bigger and better. Yoga, Zumba, jazz concerts, treadmill bingo, art classes, cooking lessons, you name it we’ve got it happening somewhere across the state,” Mrs Davies said.
In addition to the local events in the Hunter thesold out Premier’s Gala Concerts will be held on 5 and 6 April 2018 at the International Convention Centre Sydney alongside the Seniors Festival Expo. The Expo, which is free and open to the public, will feature more than 50 exciting exhibitors tailored especially for seniors.
Seniors can fill their calendars with the events happening in the Hunter and across NSW during the Festival by searching via postcode, suburb or region at https://seniorsfestival.nsw.gov.au/events/find-an-event or by contacting their local council.
