WYONG ROAD UPGRADES COMPLETED
24th Apr 2018

Central Coast motorists will now experience a safe and smoother journey along Wyong Road with work on major intersection upgrades now complete.

Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast Scot MacDonald MLC said the NSW Government invested $147 million in these projects which are providing motorists with safer intersections and improved traffic flow.

“These upgrades have been years in the making so it is excellent to see work is now complete along Wyong Road with the intersections of Tumbi Road and Mingara Drive at Tumbi Umbi, Enterprise Drive and Chittaway Road at Chittaway Bay as well as the Wyong Road intersection at Tuggerah,” Mr MacDonald said.

“Wyong Road is the major road linking the M1 Pacific Motorway with Wyong and Tuggerah with The Entrance and surrounding coastal suburbs so it was important to ensure motorists can travel safely along this important road corridor.

“Work on the intersection upgrade at Chittaway Bay was completed in October 2016 and has improved traffic flow and safety for the 48,000 vehicles which use this section of Wyong Road each day.”

Mr MacDonald said crews had worked hard since November 2014 to deliver these projects which are providing better and smoother connections for all motorists, including holiday makers.

“The roundabouts at Enterprise Drive, Mingara Drive and Tumbi Road were heavily congested during peak hours but the completed work has helped improve traffic flow and safety for the thousands of motorists who use these intersections each day.”

“The upgrade at the intersection of Wyong Road and the Pacific Highway at Tuggerah involved converting the existing roundabout to traffic lights which was a complicated task.

“Work was completed a year ahead of schedule and the 55,000 vehicles which use this intersection are now experiencing a safer and more efficient journey.”

Taylor Martin MLC said the Central Coast region has reaped the benefits of these projects with more than half of all subcontractors and suppliers being sourced locally.

“The early completion of these vital upgrades is excellent news for the region,” Mr Martin said.

“The NSW Government is continuing to build new and improved roads in the Central Coast region with planning work continuing on the Empire Bay Drive and The Scenic Road intersection upgrade at Kincumber as well as work on the Pacific Highway between Ourimbah and Lisarow and the M1 upgrades between Tuggerah and Doyalson.”
