STRATEGY TO DRIVE MORE FOOD AND WINE VISITORS TO THE HUNTER

More food and wine lovers across the globe are set to put the Hunter on their travel itinerary with the NSW Liberal National Government launching its first NSW Food & Wine Tourism Strategy & Action Plan 2018-2022.

Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Scot MacDonald MLC said it was fantastic to have a food and wine blueprint to help grow the sector in the Hunter.

“We’re excited by the release of this strategy and action plan which reinforces the Government’s commitment to working closely with industry and travel partners to make sure we continue to boost local economies, jobs and investment across our communities,” Mr MacDonald said.

Minister for Tourism and Major Events Adam Marshall said the strategy and action plan would help grow the vibrant food and wine industry, which currently contributes around $9.2 billion annually to the NSW visitor economy, and offer visitors the best and most diverse food and wine tourism experiences.

“The Government will be rolling out 27 actions to support the sector through activities such as marketing, product development workshops and research to identify local opportunities, trends and gaps,” Mr Marshall said.

“Ongoing collaboration between Government and industry will play a key role in achieving the objectives and I encourage the State’s food and wine operators to become familiar with this plan so we can all work together to ensure travellers continue to develop a real hunger and thirst for NSW.”

Hunter Valley Wine and Tourism Association Chair Lindy Hyam said the Hunter wine industry is the oldest continuing wine region in Australia and generates at least 2800 jobs in the region.

“Securing our future depends on marketing to new and existing customers and innovative product development building on our established and new and emerging food and wine brands. This Strategy and Action plan will promote achievement of this goal,” Ms Hyam said.

The strategy and action plan includes five key strategic pillars – Product Development, Industry Development, Event Development, Marketing & Public Relations, and Research & Insights.
