Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Scot MacDonald MLC today announced maintenance work will soon start on Ironbark Creek Bridge at Sandgate to improve safety for motorists.

Mr MacDonald said the NSW Government has allocated $750,000 for the work to ensure the bridge’s continued safe operation.

“Work involves upgrading the central median and bridge barriers on the bridge,” Mr MacDonald said.

“Roads and Maritime Services will carry out the work at night Sunday to Thursday between 7pm and 4am.

“This work will start on Sunday 28 May and is expected to be completed in six weeks, weather permitting.”

To ensure the safety of workers and motorists, temporary speed limits will be in place during work hours and traffic control and signs will help direct motorists.

One lane in each direction will remain open at night with a 40 km/h speed limit in place and all lanes will be open during the day with a 60km/h speed limit in place.

Motorists are advised to follow the direction of traffic control and follow all speed limits and signs.

Roads and Maritime thanks the community for its patience while work is carried out.
