Families right across the Hunter will get upgraded schools thanks to funding provided in this year’s NSW Government Budget, Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Scot MacDonald MLC announced today.
A range of upgrade and redevelopment works will occur at 5 existing schools over the next four years to increase capacity and provide improved environments for learning and teaching:
- Rutherford Public School Upgrade
- Belmont High School Upgrade
- Newcastle East Public School Upgrade
- Nulkaba Public School Upgrade
- Callaghan College Jesmond Campus Upgrade
- Primary school upgrades in the Lake Macquarie and Maitland electorates
These projects are a part of the NSW Government’s record commitment to education across the state, which will see a record $4.2 billion invested into new and existing school projects over the next four years, including $2.2 billion worth of new projects commencing in the next two years.
Mr MacDonald said the projects would play a vital role in providing school kids from across the region with a top-quality education.
“These new schools and upgrades will help provide the facilities our community needs and deserves,” Mr MacDonald said.
Education Minister Rob Stokes said NSW public schools are expected to enrol an additional 164,000 students by 2031, and these school projects will provide improved and expanded learning environments for the students.
“These projects will ensure students and staff have the resources they need to succeed in the 21st century,” Mr Stokes said.
“The NSW Government is working hard to provide high-quality education facilities for students and their communities now and into the future.”
