The NSW 2017-18 Budget will include $2 million in funding over two years for renovations and an extension for the fire station in Kariong, Minister for Emergency Services Troy Grant and Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast Scot MacDonald MLC announced today.
“Our firefighters do extraordinary work, often under enormous pressure and an upgraded fire station will give firefighters in Kariong the facilities they need to continue their vital work for generations to come,” Mr Grant said.
Improvements to the site will include a combined Zone and Duty Commanders Office, training facilities, a meeting room and additional living and work areas suitable for both male and female firefighters.
Mr MacDonald said the multi-million dollar project will commence later this year, with completion expected in 2019.
“Our firefighters are there to protect us 24/7 and they deserve the best facilities we can offer them,” Mr MacDonald said.
“Central Coast firefighters respond to more than 6,000 emergency calls every year, and they richly deserve the boost that this new facility will provide.
“I’m extremely proud the NSW Government is investing in the safety of our region by providing our firefighters with the latest equipment and resources.”
The NSW Budget delivers $1.48 billion for emergency services in 2017-18, including funding to enhance warning systems for communities affected by natural disasters and to continue to engage large firefighting aircraft.
