The NSW Government’s 2017-18 Budget includes a further $1.95 million (total cost $3.8 million) to complete construction of the new Wallsend Fire Station, Minister for Emergency Services Troy Grant and Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Scot MacDonald MLC announced today.

The additional funding in this year’s Budget will be used to construct the new fire station which will include training facilities, gym, separate amenities for a diverse workforce and a dual engine bay.

“Our first responders do extraordinary work, often under enormous pressure and a new fire station will give firefighters in Wallsend the facilities they need to continue their vital work for generations to come,” Mr Grant said.

Mr MacDonald said the new station in Summerland Road is expected to be completed next year.

“Our firefighters are there to protect us 24/7 and they deserve the best facilities we can offer them,” Mr MacDonald said.

“This continued investment in Wallsend’s new fire station highlights this Government’s unwavering commitment to community safety.

“The new station will be designed to ensure our firefighters are fit and ready to do their job effectively.

“I’m extremely proud the NSW Government is investing in the safety of our region by providing our firefighters with the latest equipment and resources.”
