Liberal Upper House MP and Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter, Scot MacDonald MLC, today announced work to improve pedestrian safety on Lang Street at Kurri Kurri is now complete.
Mr MacDonald said the NSW Government allocated $200,000 in 2016/17 to install a pedestrian refuge between Mitchell Avenue and Merthyr Street to help pedestrians safely cross the road.
“Roads and Maritime Services completed the work which involved providing a new pedestrian crossing on Lang Street and building a concrete refuge near Mitchell Avenue and Merthyr Street to reduce the crossing distance for pedestrians,” Mr MacDonald said.
“The community will also notice new landscaped gardens provided on each side of the road to complement the pedestrian refuge and improve the visual amenity in the area.
“Improvements were also made to the existing parking area including resurfacing the road shoulders and installing line marking to provide 90 degree angle parking spaces.”
Mr MacDonald said a loading bay was also provided near the pedestrian refuge to improve access for nearby businesses.
“Work started in May this year and was completed this month,” Mr MacDonald said.
Roads and Maritime thanks the community for its patience while these important road safety improvements were carried out.
