Upgrade work will soon start at the intersection of Nelson Bay Road and Medowie Road, marking a vital step in improving the safety and efficiency along Nelson Bay Road at Williamtown.

Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight Melinda Pavey said the upgrades would provide immediate relief to congestion and improve safety for motorists.

“Over five years there were a total of 121 casualty crashes along the Nelson Bay Road,” Mrs Pavey said.

“Our priority is making sure this road is safe and reliable, to support not only local motorists but also the tourism and freight industries along the Nelson Bay peninsula.”

“The NSW Government has provided $6 million for the upgrade and planning for further work at the intersection of Nelson Bay Road and Lemon Tree Passage Road.

“These upgrades are part of a $70 million commitment to upgrade the Nelson Bay Road corridor and for planning on Fingal Bay Link Road.”

Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Scot MacDonald said the upgrade to the Nelson Bay Road and Medowie Road intersection would provide better connectivity for residents and people accessing Newcastle Airport and the Port Stephens region.

“The NSW Government has committed the funding to improve Nelson Bay Road and this project is the first step in delivering a safer more reliable journey for residents, tourists and business,” he said.

“Safety is our number one priority and these immediate improvements will help reduce crash rates in this area while also easing congestion.”
