LABOR THREAT TO NEW MAITLAND HOSPITAL
10th Aug 2017

In the closing minutes of Parliament on Thursday, Labor’s Shadow Spokesman for Health Hon Walt Secord threatened to tear up the contract for a new Maitland Hospital.

Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Scot MacDonald MLC said “ Labor can’t be trusted with Health. They have threatened to derail the construction of a new Lower Hunter Hospital if it isn’t to their liking. This would be a disaster for Maitland and the region. It would set back the development of a new hospital possibly for years.”

“Contracts and finances for a new $450million dollar Hospital are very complex and any variation would likely be legally contested. It is simply a disaster for Maitland and demonstrates again, Labor will put politics before Health and community every time.”

“The Opposition has not matched the Liberal Government commitment for a new Hospital. It has not pledged any significant funding. It is now on the cusp of cancelling a contract for a new lower Hunter Hospital if they formed Government. Fortunately that is not likely to happen” Mr MacDonald said

I am calling on Opposition Leader Luke Foley to stand Walt Secord aside. Walt Secord represents a real risk to Health infrastructure. No construction company and no health partner can have confidence in Labor.
